Somewhere in the beautiful Animas River between Durango and Silverton, Colorado, this binky is buried.

I was twelve years young when I witnessed my young buddy toss his pacifier out the train car window. It was one of those moments when all present (his folks & my family) paused in anticipation of what would follow.

After all these years, that little guy is still my friend. He’s grown and even raising a little guy of his own. On the occasion of his son’s arrival, I gave my friend this small painting. We still chuckle over “the toss,” and we still enjoy one another’s company. He’s a friend I discuss ideas with—some are held closely and some are tossed out.

Bye Bye Binky
